Are we speaking the same language?

Advancements in neuroscience have shown there is a significant difference in how genders communicate based on their brain structures. When a girl receives stimuli, activating the limbic system in their brain, it goes into words meaning they are more likely to express themselves through language. On the other hand, when a boy’s limbic system lights up, it goes straight into their bodies meaning they are more inclined to express themselves through behaviour.

So the important part to remember is:

A boys behaviour is their language

A common example might be when you are at a park and say "we are leaving now" and find your little boy kicking the sand or acting out. What he is trying to tell you is he doesn’t want to leave yet. In these situations, I would suggest preparing them in advance.

For example, say “Little Nigel, we are going to leave the park in 10 minutes sweetheart.” Notice the term of endearment on the end? It is important to use because it reinforces the positive connection. Depending on their age, I actually try to use something more visual or tangible children can relate to rather than the abstract concept of time. However, for the purposes of this example, you would follow it up giving little Nigel a reminder at 5 minutes. Once the time is up you might say “Nigel, it is time to go so mummy and daddy can get you ready for bath time.” It's important to give them something to look forward to because it is about reinforcing a positive connection through language.
